Revealing Fresh New Skin

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate skin. Suitable for treating sagging, thinning skin, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, open pores, pigmentation and stretch marks.
Skin needling is a procedure using a device covered with tiny, shallow needles, essentially creates tiny holes in the skin surface. The trauma stimulates the skin’s own collagen and elastin production.

How does it work?

Utilising oscillating vertical needling technology tiny multiple needles vertically pierce the skin with a vibrating movement.

This stimulates natural collagen re-production, allowing fine channels to be created that can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients deep into the skin’s fibroblasts. The increased absorption of active ingredients creates stimulation repair and faster resurfacing results.

Salon treatment vs microneedling at home

Various DIY microneedling devices, often referred to as dermarollers, are available in the market. Here is why you should consider a professional salon treatment instead. This is your skin we are talking about!

Unlike home devices professional technology offers adjustable needling depths which means the treatment can be tailored to your skin thickness and also treat hard to reach areas in a single treatment. It can also target deeper scars individually.

Microneedling Frequently Asked Questions.

Will the treatment be painful?

A topical anaesthetic (numbing) cream is applied to the treatment area for 30-45 minutes prior to treatment.

Note:

– Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding woman.

– Only one area (ie face and neck) can be treated in a single session to avoid over exposure to anaesthetic.

How will my skin look afterwards?

Immediately after treatment tightness, a sunburnt look and mild swelling will be experienced. This subsided over the next 24 hours. Slight redness may last 1 to 3 days but can be covered with a mineral-based makeup. Minimal tightness and dryness can be experienced for 3 – 5 days and on the 3rd day your skin can feel slightly rough as dead cells are shed, however this is hardly noticeable. Skin will be back to normal within 3 to 5 days although thinner skins may take up to 7 days.

What areas can be treated?

The high-tech used in my salon has adjustable needle depths and therefore the face can be treated in one session without the need for additional equipment, making it more economical.

Open pores, sagging skin, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and pigmentation can all be treated as well as stretch marks and atrophic scarring.

How many treatments do I need?

Everyone is unique, and results do vary from one person to the other. Age, health, skin health and condition all play a part in the end result, however, as a guide: for general freshening 3 to 4 treatments are usually required, spaced approximately 4 to 8 weeks apart. For acne scarring or sun damaged skin, 6 to 10 treatments are usually expected, spaced 6 – 8 weeks apart.

When will I see results?

Because new collagen doesn’t happen overnight, you must be patient. Friends will start commenting in about a month, however the real results are seen after 4 to 6 months are accumulative, so it just gets better. Noticeable changes in the skin texture will be experienced after the 4th treatment and results will continue to increase with further treatments and there after.

What do I do at home afterwards?

Use cold compresses to calm the skin. Products will be applied before you leave and you will receive advice on specific home care treatments to ensure speedy recovery for the 5 days following your treatment. Do not apply regular makeup for 24 hours or use products containing AHA’s, perfumes or colourants while the skin is healing. Use only sunscreens containing zinc oxide.
